anatomē

Since 2022, Gabriel Weil has worked alongside Brendan Murdock to turn a clever botanical wellbeing brand into a house with a philosophy of its own: the modern apothecary.

Brendan Murdock founded anatomē in London in 2018, drawing on the power of botanicals to support wellbeing, after a career spent founding and advising brands of his own. When Gabriel joined him in 2022, the formulations were already rigorous. In Gabriel's view, what the brand still needed was a world for them to live in. Together they shaped the concept of the modern apothecary, where the remedies of the old dispensary meet the evidence of contemporary science. They also defined a tone of voice that could speak about sleep or stress with the same assurance usually reserved for fine perfume.

Their method has stayed largely the same ever since. Each time Brendan develops a new formulation, Gabriel translates it into a product people will want to own, whether for pleasure or for wellbeing, and more often than not for both. The collaboration culminated in The Modern Apothecary, the anatomē book they wrote together, published by Octopus in January 2024. The book sets out five pillars of wellness (sleep, balance, movement, focus and diet), 22 botanicals, and a revival of rituals from the apothecary's past. It describes more than a product range: it sets out a way of living that anatomē was among the first to articulate.
